Exploration for Gold and Critical Metals in the Erongo Mountains
Gecko Exploration holds one Exclusive Prospecting License (EPL) of about 60,000 ha covering the southern Erongo Mountain and its periphery. The area falls within the South Central Zone of the Damara Belt, Erongo Region of Namibia. The license shares its geological setting with the major gold exploration and mining tenements in the surroundings i.e. Ondundu, Navachab and Goldkuppe.
The licence combines three exploration targets:
- Metasomatic skarn and greisen mineralisation in contact of the Erongo granites and granodiorite intrusions with the Damaran metasediments: contact skarn and greisen type gold-(copper-bismuth) and tin-tungsten
- Pegmatites formed during the late Damaran orogeny hosting lithium minerals and semi-precious stones.
- Structurally controlled gold The late-tectonic D3 (ENE/NE-trending) and D4 (NNE-trending) shear zones, and faults (locally thrusts) appear to be of particular importance. Gold is spatially associated with late tectonic leucogranites and pegmatites.
Historical figures indicate temporary small scale mining for all of those deposit types on the property.
Gecko Exploration has applied for an Environmental Clearance Certificate for exploration work. Immediately after grant of this permit, exploration will start with a systematic and detailed soil survey.
