Exploration for Critical Metals in the Warmbad area
Gecko Exploration holds one Exclusive Prospecting License (EPL) of more than 60,000 ha just to the north of the Tantalite Valley Lithium-Tantalum Mine in the Karas Region.
The license area covers highly metamorphic basement rocks of the Namaqua Metamorphic Complex and hosts several dozens of known pegmatite occurrences. The pegmatites at the adjacent Tantalite Valley have been mined for lithium (amblygonite, spodumene, lepidolite), beryllium (beryl) and tantalum (columbite-tantalite). Cassiterite-bearing pegmatites containing accessory tourmaline, garnet, fluorite and beryl have locally been mined from the Namaqualand Metamorphic Complex.
Several hundreds of pegmatites are known on Gecko’s EPL6439. Historical information points out registered mineral occurrences of lithium, niobium, tantalum, beryllium and rare earth elements.
While the project is regarded as greenfields exploration, a vast amount of geophysical and geological data was obtained from the Geological Survey of Namibia. The data include air-borne magnetics and radiometrics, a hyperspectral survey, and recently completed detailed mapping project (scale 1:50,000) in conjunction with the Council of Geosciences of South Africa
Gecko Exploration has applied for an Environmental Clearance Certificate for exploration work. Immediately after grant of this permit, exploration will start with systematic mapping and sampling of the pegmatites, followed by drilling.
